Why Invest With Nepsis – Part 1

Clarity In Thinking. Discipline In Action. Legacy In Mind.

Most wealth management firms manage money. Nepsis stewards wealth. That distinction shapes everything: how we think, how we invest and how we serve the families who trust us with what they have built over a lifetime.

We are built on one conviction: that investing should carry the same clarity, discipline and ownership mentality a great business owner brings to building a company. It rewards ownership over speculation and discipline over guesswork.

THE LANDSCAPE

The Problem the Industry Won’t Admit

The industry has spent decades putting emotion at the center of investing. Benchmark comparisons that have nothing to do with your goals. Forecasts that rarely prove accurate. A short-term performance culture that trains investors to buy high, sell low and repeat the cycle.

“The foundation of Nepsis is knowing exactly what you own and why you own it. We call this investing with clarity.”
Mark Pearson
Founder, CEO & Chief Investment Officer

The evidence is hard to argue with. For twenty consecutive years, the Dalbar Study has found that the average equity fund investor earns meaningfully less than the market itself, and the cause is almost always behavioral: fear sells, greed buys. The S&P 500 carries a quieter risk of its own. A handful of mega-cap names now drive most of its return, so a stumble in one or two of them lands hard on anyone anchored to the index.

Much of our work is behavioral: helping you stay disciplined when markets stir fear and greed, while a portfolio of excellent businesses does the compounding. Every client is invested through a Separately Managed Account (SMA) of 20 to 40 high-quality companies, shaped to that client’s goals. The reason we use SMAs is ownership: because you hold the businesses directly rather than shares of a pooled fund, you can see exactly what you own, manage taxes around your own situation and take withdrawals on your terms. Your portfolio is yours alone, and we measure progress against your plan rather than an index built for someone else.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Nepsis Difference

Nepsis was founded on a different premise: that investors succeed by owning exceptional businesses, holding them through volatility and adding to them when others are selling.

Our name says it all. Nepsis is a Greek word meaning to be watchful, alert and vigilant with a clear mind — the ability to attain clarity and discernment. In an industry that thrives on ambiguity, we offer the opposite. Clarity about what you own. Clarity about why you own it. Clarity about what we will and will not do with your wealth.

Four principles define how we invest:

  • Philosophy: Invest like an owner. Know what you own and why you own it, diversify with intention and embrace volatility rather than fear it.
  • Strategy: Build portfolios on fundamental analysis rather than market timing, investing in secular and cyclical trends across 20 to 40 select companies.
  • Flexibility: Respond to volatility with Strategic Cost Averaging® (SCA), investing unequal amounts timed to market and company events to build ownership over time.
  • Transparency: See all account activity in real time, with trusted, independent custodians overseeing the assets held in your name.

Next week’s Part 2, we will look at Our Process and Our Strategy, which covers Strategic Cost Averaging® (SCA), our proprietary method: rather than investing fixed amounts on a fixed schedule, we invest more when prices are lower and less when they are elevated, timed to specific market and company events. We hope you will read next week.
